Q. WHO MAY PARTICIPATE?

Anyone!  Adults, teens and kids.  Even if your child is not yet a reader, you can read to him or her and record each book that you discover together.

Q. HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?  HOW CAN MY CHILD PARTICIPATE?

Signing up is easy - simply login/register on this site to let us know you're joining the summer journey this year. Join us anytime.

LOGIN/CREATE ACCOUNT:  Select the login link in the upper right corner and enter last year's username and password. Need assistance? Call the library at 913-837-2217.

Create an account by signing up yourself and/or your whole family. If you are registering multiple family members, start by creating an account just for you, then register your family under your account.  You can add or link accounts by clicking on "Account" while you are logged on.  Under "Account" there is also an option to link an existing account, so you can create a family account even after a separate account has been created. Registration Instructions

GET READING:  When you register yourself or family members, you'll select an age-based reading program. Each reading program has prizes.  You can count Ebooks, Audiobooks, Magazines, and reading to others.

TRACK PROGRESS:  Your account will indicate your progress.  Log on regularly, record your reading, and explore other ways to earn points and prizes.

CELEBRATE SUCCESS:  Visit your account regularly for messages about prizes you have won.  Visit the library often to pick up your prizes, while supplies last.

Q. DOES MY CHILD NEED A UNIQUE USERNAME & PASSWORD?

If you choose to assign your child a username and password, they can access their own account and log. However, this is optional with parents accessing their children's log  through their own account. This allows parents to login using only one username and password for multiple accounts.

Q. CAN TEACHERS REGISTER THEIR STUDENTS IN A GROUP?

Teachers cannot register their students in a group, but that doesn't mean their students can't participate.  As a teacher, please encourage the parents/guardians to enroll their children in the program.

Q.  WHICH BOOKS ARE ELIGIBLE?

We encourage you to read all types of materials, and let others in the community see you reading.  Please count BOOKS, EBOOKS, AUDIOBOOKS, or count the TIME you read.  The books can be library books, or books on your shelf.  Count the time you spend reading to your kids, please don't count it as a book. Don't forget to count the time you spent reading a book even if you didn't finish it.  Remember to count the time you spent reading a MAGAZINE.

Q.  CAN I COUNT THE READING THAT I'VE DONE BEFORE THE OFFICIAL START DATE?

Actually, we do ask that you count only reading you've done within the official dates of SummerBASH, May 25-August 2.

Q. HOW MANY BOOKS DO I HAVE TO READ TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE PRIZES?

Your eligibility for a prize is determined by racking up points by August 2 - not by the number of books you read (but the more, the merrier!).  Each program is age-based, and each age group has assigned point values.

LISTENERS: will receive a prize for every 100 points, completing the program at 1000 points. 1 Book = 5 points (based on a 32-page picture book being read to them)
Other ways of logging: 1 Page = .15 points, 1 Minute = 1 point, 1 Hour = 60 points

EARLY READERS: will receive a prize for every 100 points, completing the program at 1000 points.  1 Book = 10 points (based on reading 32-page early reader book on their own)
Other ways of logging: 1 Page = .30 points, 1 Minute = 1 point, 1 Hour = 60 points

READERS: will receive a prize for every 200 points, completing the program at 2000 points. We recommend that your child logs by minutes, as every child reads at different speeds.
1 Book = 200 points (based on a 200 page chapter book)
Other ways of logging: 1 Page = 1 point,1 Minute = 1 point, 1 Hour = 60 points

TEENS & ADULTS: will receive a prize at 400 points, 2,000 points, 4,000 points, 10,000 points, and 20,000 points.  Raffle tickets for Prize Baskets will be available for every 400 points.  Completion of the program occurs at 40,000 points.  1 Book = 400 points, 1 Hour = 60 points
